Bell Telephone Building
The original factory finish on the exterior embossed steel composite panels of this 500,000 square foot Bell Telephone building had worn away.
The underlying protective layers of primer and zinc galvanizing were exposed to sunlight and weathering. These protective layers between the top coat and the bare metal are effective rust inhibitors, but exposed to the environment they quickly degenerate, leaving the underlying metal without protection causing corrosion and decay. The longer a problem of this type is left untreated, the more complicated and costly the refinishing solution becomes.
To prepare the embossed panels for refinishing, the existing factory primer and metallic urethane paint finish were completely removed.
Induspray
designed and built specialized profiling equipment to ensure the peaks and valleys of the panels were uniformly prepared without damaging the sensitive galvanized layer below.
The refinishing system included application of an epoxy primer and fluoropolymer paint finish designed to last in excess of twenty years. As a last step to ensure the finish performed as intended
Induspray
installed a new caulking system to the entire envelope of the building.
The project was completed with excellent results and ahead of schedule.
